I’ve always loved creating and painting, sketching, experimenting with color, but I didn’t always know where it would lead. It wasn’t until I discovered surface design that things began to connect. Suddenly, my watercolor swatches, playful motifs, and love of storytelling had a purpose: to live on fabric, wallpaper, and products that could bring joy to everyday spaces.
As a fine artist, I often had people ask if I could print my paintings on cushions. I loved the idea, art that could be lived with, not just hung on a wall. So I launched a small business designing custom art cushions. At first, it was exciting. But very quickly, I found myself buried in logistics: managing orders, production timelines, quality control, customer messages, and delivery.
The joy of creation was replaced by the weight of coordination. I wasn’t painting anymore, I was managing. I was spending more time replying to messages and organizing pickups than I was mixing colors. Although I loved dealing with new people every day, but my creativity suffered. The business began to grow, but I felt myself shrinking behind it.
Eventually, I made the hard decision to close the cushion shop. It wasn’t failure, it was a return to myself.
That’s when I discovered Spoonflower, and with it, a new way to share my designs. It took over the managerial burden: handling printing, shipping, and customer service. So I could return to what I love most, creating.
Now, I focus on developing patterns and building collections that reflect my voice. Spoonflower allows me to upload my work, set my style free, and trust that the logistics are taken care of. It’s a platform that values the artist’s time, while giving art the chance to live beyond the screen.
Launching my Spoonflower shop felt like a quiet reclaiming of my creative space. Every collection I upload carries a piece of my voice. Some are playful and pastel. Others are bold, nostalgic, or softly emotional. Each one reflects something I’m feeling, exploring, or dreaming of.
Surface design isn’t just about making pretty patterns, it’s about translating emotion into form. It’s about sharing pieces of yourself that others can wear, touch, or live with. And to me, that’s the most meaningful kind of art.
I’m still learning. Still growing. And I miss my customers, But this path, this balance between freedom and function, feels like home.
