Growing Through Watercolor: My 6-Week Artistic Journey

Every artist has those days, the ones where doubt creeps in and whispers “maybe I’m not good enough.” I had one of those moments recently, staring at my watercolor brush, questioning whether I was really growing in my craft.

Instead of giving up, I decided to challenge myself with a 6-Week Watercolor Growth Plan. And you know what? It turned into one of the most joyful, confidence-boosting experiences I’ve had with my art.

Week 1: Focal Sharpness & Composition

I started with eucalyptus leaves. Soft washes, gentle backgrounds, and one or two leaves with crisp edges. At first, my results felt clumsy. But as I layered, glazed, and added subtle shadows, I noticed something: each little adjustment made the painting feel more alive.

That doubt I felt? It slowly turned into curiosity. Instead of asking “what if I’m not good enough?” I started asking “what if I try one more layer?”

Why This Journey Matters

Watercolor is magical because it mirrors life. It teaches patience, letting go, and finding beauty in imperfection. Some leaves will always be softer, some darker, but together, they create harmony.

Through these weekly exercises, I discovered that improvement doesn’t have to be heavy or serious. It can be fun, playful, even uplifting. And by Week 6, my plan is to have a mini botanical series ready for print not just as art, but as a reminder of resilience and joy.

A Note for Fellow Artists

If you’ve ever doubted your skills, you’re not alone. But doubt doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Sometimes, it’s the very beginning of a new chapter. 🌸

So grab your brushes, pick one flower, and let yourself grow; one wash, one shadow, one highlight at a time.

✨ Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing each week’s progress (and the lessons learned) as I continue this 6-week watercolor adventure.
