This summer, we didn’t travel. No big flights, no hotel bookings. Just a simple staycation by the sea, a quiet chalet, and time to breathe. I knew my daughter had been counting down the days for summer break, and I wanted it to feel special, even if we stayed close to home.
Then I remembered something: the rare joy on her face every time I let her join me during fluid art sessions.
So I made a spontaneous decision.
I packed up my fluid art arsenal; cups, colors, canvas, gloves, stir sticks, the whole glorious mess, and brought it to the chalet. And now, two weeks in, I can honestly say:
It was the best decision I could’ve made.
Fluid art became more than a fun activity. It became a rhythm in our days. When the beach felt too hot, when the pool lost its thrill, when boredom crept in, we poured paint.
And not just for fun. It kept my daughter away from screens, grounded her in the moment, and gave her a quiet space to connect with herself. It helped her release the little stresses she couldn’t put into words.
I was there, guiding, watching, sometimes just cleaning up paint splatters, but I was also witnessing something beautiful:
Fluid art was teaching her patience.
My daughter isn’t naturally patient. She’s vibrant, fast, expressive. But fluid art forced her to slow down. She had to wait for layers to dry, choose her colors carefully, learn what too much tilting does. She learned to observe, to balance color, and to respect the process.
And as an unexpected bonus?
We saved money. No need to escape to the mall or plan expensive outings whenever she was bored. The creative flow at the chalet was enough.
We laugh more. We talk more. We get messy and clean up together.
And every time she finishes a piece, she looks at it like she’s surprised by herself in the best way.
So no, we didn’t travel this year. But we created something richer:
memories, moments, and a deeper connection, one swirl of color at a time.
