Recently, while scrolling on X (Twitter), I stumbled upon a very shocking tweet from someone who is considered a “thinker” and “visionary,” followed by hundreds of thousands of people. He confidently stated that AI will replace many jobs and skills, including artists.
I wasn’t shocked by his opinion as much as I was by the reaction of his followers. They were panicked and terrified, agreeing with him.
But here’s what I believe: AI won’t replace us. In fact, the more AI is used to create mass-produced art, the more valuable handmade art by real humans will become. The need for unique, human-created work will only increase.
So instead of fearing AI, we should harness it, use it to facilitate and support our creative work, not replace it.
In this article, I’ll share how I’ve personally used AI to support my creative process and help me create art that sells.
1. Brainstorming Ideas
I use AI to help brainstorm ideas and research which subjects are most likely to sell, based on the type of customers I’m targeting.
2. Exploring Color Trends
I use AI tools to explore current color trends and see which palettes are resonating in the market.
3. Checking Sketch Composition
Before I paint a final piece, I use AI to test and refine the composition of my sketch. This helps me see potential improvements and avoid mistakes.
4. Testing Color Compatibility
When working with a new color palette, I use AI to check color harmony and compatibility. Especially if I’m trying something new.
5. Finally, I use AI to generate mockups that visualize my artwork in real-life settings, making it easier for potential collectors to imagine pieces in their space. It helps me create custom backgrounds for playful, emotionally driven art, adding context and personality. I also use it to preview how pattern designs will appear on products like textiles or wall decor, turning ideas into visual stories.
I use AI mainly in the preparation process, as an assistant, a second eye, and sometimes an unbiased critic.
I’m still the artist. The brush is still in my hand. The vision is still mine. AI is simply a tool that helps me create with more confidence and clarity.
So my advice to you, fellow artists;
Don’t resist AI. Don’t be afraid of it. And please don’t feel you must use it to create finished art if that’s not your style.
Use it where it can truly help you as a supportive assistant in your creative process.
Let’s create smart, empowered, human-driven art together.
